Department of Translation and Interpreting was founded in the academic year 1997-1998 under the body of Faculty of Science and Letters to offer education at undergraduate and graduate levels. Our department started to accept its first graduate students in 1999 and the first undergraduate students were accepted in 2005. Ph.D. programme in Translation Studies has been founded in 2015. Our department has offered education under the Faculty of Letters since 2010.
Our department consists of three divisions: Division of English Translation and Interpreting, Division of German Translation and Interpreting, and Division of French Translation and Interpreting. Students have been admitted to the English-German-Turkish Translation and Interpreting Undergraduate Programme between 2005 and 2015. Following the re-organisation of departments in 2015, students started to be admitted to English Translation and Interpreting Undergraduate Programme; the dual language programme of English-German-Turkish Translation and Interpreting was ended. In 2023, the annual quota of English Translation and Interpreting Undergraduate Programme is 60 students.
